Former allies arrived one after another.
They carried documents.
Hard drives.
Bank records.
Audio recordings.
Photographs.
For decades, Eleanor had ruled through secrets.
Now those secrets were weapons pointed directly at her.
Marcus Hale brought the most important evidence.
“The private server,” he said.
Victoria studied the encrypted drive.
“You helped her hide this.”
Marcus lowered his head.
“Yes.”
“You helped destroy my family.”
“I was afraid.”
Victoria stared at him.
“So was everyone.”
Marcus swallowed.
“But I'm not afraid anymore.”
Victoria accepted the drive.
“Then prove it.”
Marcus looked surprised.
“How?”
“Tell the truth.”
The federal investigators arrived shortly afterward.
The server was opened.
Thousands of files appeared.
Among them was a folder labeled:
PROJECT AURORA
Victoria stared at the screen.
“What is Aurora?”
Marcus's face went white.
“I don't know.”
Victoria opened the file.
There were financial transfers.
Medical payments.
Travel records.
One name appeared repeatedly.
Dr. Samuel Reed.
Mia's unborn daughter would later be named Aurora.
But Victoria didn't know that yet.
At that moment, the name meant something else.
A secret Eleanor had buried for nearly three decades.
