Chapter 4 - THE CONFRONTATION Ethan stood in the doorway.
His eyes moved from the smoking iron...
to the scattered legal documents...
to his crying son.
Finally, he looked at Victoria.
"What happened?"
Victoria immediately pointed at Maria.
"She attacked me."
Maria shook her head.
"She's lying."
Ethan picked up one of the documents.
The corner was burned.
His face hardened.
"Victoria."
She swallowed.
"Listen to me."
"No."
His voice was terrifyingly calm.
"You're going to listen to me."
Victoria tried to explain.
But Maria spoke first.
"She wanted to destroy Leo's trust documents."
Ethan looked toward the security camera mounted above the doorway.
The small red light was blinking.
Victoria's face changed.
Ethan already knew.
"I saw everything."
Victoria's confidence disappeared.
"Ethan..."
"Our marriage is over."
She stared at him.
"You can't mean that."
"I do."
He walked toward Leo.
The baby reached for him.
Ethan lifted his son into his arms.
Leo immediately stopped crying.
Ethan closed his eyes for a moment.
Then he whispered:
"Nobody will ever hurt you again."
