Everything appeared intact.
But Maria noticed something.
"Mr. Mercer..."
She pointed toward the bottom shelf.
One folder was missing.
Ethan's stomach tightened.
"What folder?"
"The one labeled 'Guardian.'"
Ethan stared at the empty space.
His late wife's estate attorney had created that folder before her death.
It contained documents concerning Leo's future.
Ethan immediately called his attorney.
"Someone accessed my safe."
The attorney became silent.
Then he said:
"Are you certain?"
"Yes."
"Then you have a much bigger problem."
Ethan looked toward Leo's nursery.
"What do you mean?"
"Those documents contain a private letter from your late wife."
