Chapter 14: The Crown of Light
By late afternoon, as the golden hour bathed the courtyard in amber light, the community gathered around the small wooden stage built beneath the ancient oak tree in the center of the park.
Vanessa stepped up to the microphone, her face flushed with excitement as she addressed the crowd of over three hundred neighbors, friends, and family members.
"Welcome, everyone!" Vanessa announced, her voice echoing joyfully through the crisp afternoon air. "Today, we aren't just celebrating the reopening of an arts center. We are celebrating the power of truth, the strength of a mother’s love, and the beautiful future of three very special people!"
The crowd erupted into enthusiastic applause and cheers.
Gabriel took Claire’s hand, leading her up the small wooden steps onto the stage. Beside them, Lily ran up, wearing a bright yellow sundress, her face lit with pure excitement.
Gabriel stepped up to the microphone, holding Claire’s hand tightly in his.
"One year ago," Gabriel said, his deep voice carrying clearly across the quieted park, "this community was shown that wealth and power can buy many things, but it can never buy the soul of a mother who stands up for her child."
He turned to look down at Claire, his dark eyes filled with a devotion so deep and pure it took her breath away.
"Claire," Gabriel said, dropping gently to one knee right there on the wooden stage, pulling a small velvet box from his jacket pocket. "You showed me that justice isn't just fought for in courtrooms—it’s built in our hearts, in our homes, and in the courage to love without fear. You and Lily are my home. Will you marry me, and let us build the rest of our lives together?"
The crowd held its collective breath.

"Yes!" Claire laughed through her joyful tears, kissing him passionately as the crowd erupted into wild, deafening applause and cheers. "Yes, Gabriel! A thousand times, yes!"
