Chapter 7: Fractured Allegiances

The quiet happiness of the next few days was shattered by a sudden economic assault. Arthur Vance, furious over his son's arrest, launched his ultimate weapon: a surprise hostile takeover of Sterling Enterprises. By buying up shares through shadow offshore accounts, Arthur managed to acquire 42% of Sterling’s public stock overnight, threatening to force a vote to remove Ethan as CEO at the upcoming emergency shareholder meeting.
Inside the executive boardroom of Sterling HQ, Ethan sat at the head of the massive glass table, flanked by his legal team and financial advisors. The atmosphere was thick with crisis.
"If Vance gets another 9% of the shares, he gains controlling interest," Ethan’s chief financial officer warned nervously. "He’s offering triple the market value to our independent investors. People are getting greedy, Ethan."
"Where is he getting that kind of capital?" Ethan demanded, his brow furrowed. "Vance Global doesn't have that much liquid cash."
At that moment, the boardroom doors opened, and Maya walked in, carrying a weathered leather satchel. Her eyes were sharp, filled with determination rather than fear.
"I know where he got the capital, Ethan," Maya said clearly, walking to the table.
The board members looked at her in surprise, but Ethan immediately motioned for her to speak. "Go ahead, Maya."
Maya opened the satchel and pulled out a stack of yellowed, original patent documents bearing an official government seal from thirty years ago.
"My late mother wasn't just a nurse," Maya revealed, her voice ringing with authority. "Before she married my father, she was the lead biomedical engineer who co-founded Vance Global’s core medical technology patents. Arthur Vance stole her research, forged her signature on a buyout agreement, and pushed my family into poverty to build his empire."
Ethan’s eyes widened with sharp realization. "The core patents... Vance Global’s entire revenue stream is built on your mother’s intellectual property!"
"Yes," Maya said, laying the original, hand-signed agreements on the table. "My mother kept the true master registry locked in a private safe deposit box that I only unlocked yesterday. Under federal law, because the original assignment was fraudulent, I am the rightful owner of 50% of Vance Global’s founding assets and all accumulated back-royalties."

Ethan stood up, a slow, triumphant smile spreading across his face. "Arthur Vance tried to buy my company with stolen money. And the true owner of that money is standing right in this room."
"Let's go meet Arthur Vance," Ethan declared, his eyes gleaming with lethal anticipation.
