But her final words remained in Richard's mind.
Who really wanted Leo hidden?
Richard stood alone in the ballroom long after the guests had disappeared.
The mansion felt different now.
The same chandeliers.
The same marble floors.
The same portraits.
But the illusion was gone.
Anna approached quietly.
"Mr. Astor."
Richard turned.
"Did you hear what she said?"
Anna nodded.
"Yes."
"Do you believe her?"
Anna looked toward Leo, who was sleeping in a nearby room under the care of a doctor.
"I believe she was trying to scare you."
Richard stared toward the dark windows.
"Maybe."
But something bothered him.
The recording.
The hospital.
The hidden room.
The years of planning.
Victoria could have acted alone.
Or she could have been part of something much larger.
Richard looked at Anna.
"I need to know everything."
