Chapter 8 - THE DESPERATE DEFENSE Victoria suddenly pointed toward Anna.
"She staged this!"
Anna stared at her.
"What?"
"She wants money. She found some child and brought him here."
Richard's eyes hardened.
Victoria continued.
"Richard, think! You're emotional. You're vulnerable. She knows that."
Anna looked at Leo.
"Tell your father the truth."
Leo lifted his head.
His voice was weak.
"She's lying."
Victoria froze.
The boy stared directly at her.
"She lies when she's scared."
A murmur moved through the crowd.
Victoria's hands began trembling.
Richard noticed.
"Why is he afraid of you?"
Victoria said nothing.
Then Leo slowly reached into the pocket of his dusty tuxedo.
He pulled out a small black recording device.
A green light blinked.
Once.
Twice.
Again.
Richard frowned.
"What is that?"
Leo looked at him.
"I kept it."
"Kept what?"
