Chapter 10 - THE LAKE HOUSEThe lake house stood in darkness.
One guard was unconscious.
The nursery was empty.
Then the baby monitor came alive.
Serena's voice filled the room.
“Victor.”
He froze.
“Bring me the original trust.”
Victor closed his eyes.
“Where is my son?”
“At the boathouse.”
Lily stepped forward.
“I'm coming.”
“No.”
“She trusts me.”
Victor looked at her.
For a second, he wanted to forbid her.
But he knew Lily was right.
They reached the lake.
Serena stood on the ice holding Ethan.
The water beneath them groaned.
“Stay back.”
Victor stopped.
“Give me my son.”
“Give me the trust.”
He placed the folder on the dock.
Serena kicked it toward herself.
Lily moved along the side.
“Ethan knows my voice.”
Serena laughed.
“He should know mine.”
“No,” Lily said.
“He knows who keeps him safe.”
The ice cracked.
Serena looked down.
Victor lunged.
She slipped.
Ethan fell toward the dock.
Victor caught him.
Lily grabbed Serena.
For a moment, Serena stared into the freezing water.
“Why?”
“Because I'm not you.”
Police pulled Serena onto solid ground.
Ethan clung to Lily.
Victor held him.
Then Quinn received a call.

Her expression changed.
“Damien is burning the bank records.”
