Chapter 4 - THE TRUSTWarren Price arrived at the mansion before dawn.
He wore an expensive suit and the calm expression of a man who believed his reputation was armor.
Victor placed the forged trust in front of him.
“Explain.”
Warren looked at the document.
Then at Victor.
“It appears someone has forged your signature.”
“You recognize the language.”
“It's a standard amendment.”
“It's my signature.”
“Yes.”
“And I didn't sign it.”
Warren's eyes narrowed.
“You've been under enormous stress.”
Victor leaned forward.
“Are you suggesting I'm mentally unstable?”
“I’m suggesting—”
“Choose your next sentence carefully.”
Detective Quinn entered.
“Mr. Price, we'd like to examine your records.”
Warren smiled.
“Of course.”
But Lily noticed his hand.
It was trembling.
At the hospital, Ethan's bloodwork revealed another disturbing fact.
A sedative had been present in his system.
Not enough to kill him.
Enough to make him weak.
Enough to make him appear sick.
Enough to make Victor look negligent.
Lily remembered something.
“The medicine bottle.”
She had seen Serena carrying one.
Detective Quinn searched the nursery.
A bottle labeled infant fever medicine was found inside Ethan's diaper bag.
The liquid was heavily sedating.
Serena's fingerprints covered the cap.
The arrest came before sunrise.
But as officers led Serena away, she turned toward Lily.
“You think you've won?”
Lily said nothing.
Serena smiled.
“Ask her what happened to Rosa.”
Lily's blood ran cold.
Rosa Delgado had been Ethan's first nanny.
She had vanished eight months earlier.
The family had been told she moved to Arizona.
Lily had never believed it.
Then she remembered the last message Rosa sent:
Don't trust the medicine.
May you like
That night, the case stopped being about Serena.
It became a murder investigation.
