But Detective Quinn reopened the case.
A photograph found in Warren's office showed Rosa standing beside Serena and Warren outside a private clinic.
On the back:
HE SAW THE TEST RESULTS.
Victor stared at the words.
“Who is he?”
No one knew.
A search of Julian Cole's apartment produced burner phones, forged medical records, and copies of Victor's travel schedule.
It also produced a train ticket.
Destination:
Milwaukee.
Quinn located Rosa at a roadside motel.
Or rather—
she located the room Rosa had occupied.
The room was destroyed.
Blood stained the carpet.
The mirror carried a message:
THE NANNY TALKS, THE BABY PAYS.
Victor felt rage rising.
Marco saw it.
“Give me the order.”
Victor looked toward Ethan.
“No.”
“Victor—”
“We do this legally.”
Then Quinn called.
“We found the security footage.”
A man had taken Rosa.
Victor recognized the vehicle.
His brother's.
Damien Blackwood.
Damien had spent his entire life believing Victor had inherited everything.
The money.
The power.
The respect.
The family.
Now he appeared to be working with Serena.
Victor called him.
Damien answered.
“You were always slow to see betrayal.”
“Where is Rosa?”
“Safe.”
“You kidnapped a witness.”
“I rescued someone who was about to destroy the family.”
Victor's voice became colder.
“There is no family after this.”
Damien laughed.
“You still don't understand.”
“Understand what?”

Then the line went dead.
