Chapter 19 - THE LEGACY The following morning, Arthur took Elena and Maya into an old private room hidden behind the library.
Inside were photographs.
Letters.
Family records.
And a small wooden box.
Arthur opened it.
Inside was a photograph of Maya's grandmother holding a baby.
Elena stared.
"That's you?"
Arthur smiled.
"And that's my mother."
Maya reached toward the photograph.
Arthur laughed softly.
"Your grandmother believed this family needed more than an empire."
He looked at Elena.
"She wanted us to leave something better behind."
"What?"
"People who know how to love without conditions."
Elena's eyes filled with tears.
She understood why Arthur had fought so hard.
