Chapter 9 - THE WOMAN BEHIND BARS Far away from the Vance estate, Victoria sat alone in a cold interview room.

The elegant woman who once walked through marble halls now wore prison-issued clothing.
A detective placed a folder on the table.
"You've been charged with fraud, grand larceny, and financial deception."
Victoria stared at the folder.
"You don't understand."
"We understand the money."
She looked away.
"I was entitled to it."
The detective shook his head.
"No."
Victoria's hands clenched.
She had spent years believing wealth was power.
Now she understood the truth.
Wealth without freedom was meaningless.
Still, she refused to accept defeat.
"Arthur thinks this is finished."
The detective closed the folder.
"Isn't it?"
Victoria looked up.
May you like
Her eyes were cold.
"No."
