Chapter 8 - THE EMPTY WAREHOUSE They reached the river warehouse in twenty-three minutes.

Rain hammered the roof.
The building looked abandoned.
Michael shouted Ethan's name.
Nothing.
Then Daniel found the blue watch inside a bucket of water.
Michael stared.
“She wants us to think he drowned.”
A speaker crackled.
Vanessa's voice filled the warehouse.
“You always were predictable.”
A screen descended.
Ethan appeared.
Alive.
But he was no longer at the warehouse.
He was inside Carter Industries.
Vanessa stood beside him.
“Sign over control of the company and family trust.”
Michael's jaw tightened.
“You won't get away with this.”
“I already did.”
A second screen showed edited security footage.
Michael pushing Vanessa.
No hanger.
No children.
No context.
The chairman called.
“Michael, we've received evidence of violent behavior.”
“My son has been kidnapped.”
“Vanessa claims she removed him for his safety.”
Michael looked at Robert.
Keep him talking.
“How long until the board vote?”
“Forty minutes.”
Vanessa smiled through the screen.
“Bring the original ledger.”
Then Henry stepped from the shadows.
A gun pointed toward Lily.
Michael froze.
May you like
Henry smiled.
“Now we can discuss the real price.”
