Chapter 6 - THE RETURN TO NEW YORK By sunrise, Isabella was back in New York.

But the city looked different.

The skyline no longer represented wealth.

It represented power.

And somewhere inside it lived the man who had destroyed her family.

Silas Thorne.

Mateo brought Isabella to a secure penthouse overlooking Manhattan.

There, he showed her the first documents.

Companies.

Shell corporations.

Offshore accounts.

Political donations.

Names.

Hundreds of names.

Isabella stared at the files.

"I don't understand half of this."

"You don't need to understand all of it."

Mateo pointed to one page.

"Look at this."

A payment.

Made twenty years ago.

Two days before the Valerius fire.

The recipient was a private security company.

Isabella's hands went cold.

"That's the night my parents died."

Mateo nodded.

"Exactly."

Then another discovery appeared.

A second payment.

Made six months ago.

To a hospital.

The name attached to it shocked Isabella.

Rosa Valerius.

Not Rosa's real name.

A hospital record identifying her as Katerina's former nanny.

Isabella's eyes filled with tears.

"Why was Silas paying the hospital?"

Mateo frowned.

"I don't know."

They searched deeper.

Then Isabella noticed something.

A repeated symbol.

A black thorn.

It appeared on several documents.

"What's that?"

Mateo's expression changed.

"The Thorne organization."

"What does it mean?"

"Someone inside the Valerius network was working for Silas."

"Who?"

Mateo didn't answer.

Because they didn't know.

Yet.

Then the penthouse lights went out.

Darkness swallowed the room.

Isabella heard footsteps.

A whisper.

"Find the girl."

May you like

Mateo grabbed her hand.

"Run."
