Chapter 3 - The Blood-Bound VaultDeep beneath the financial district of Manhattan, three hundred feet below the bustling streets, the catacombs opened into a vast underground rotunda. Wall-mounted industrial spotlights illuminated a massive, circular vault door forged from dark titanium and reinforced carbon steel.

Victor stepped out of the vehicle first, his weapon held low as his eyes scanned the perimeter. Finding it clear, he opened the door for Mia, helping her carry Tommy down to the damp concrete floor.

"This is it," Victor said, pointing toward a pedestal in front of the titanium vault. "The Vault of the Founding Charter. Inside this chamber lies fifty percent of the voting shares of Vance Consortium, along with Arthur’s original physical journals detailing every corrupt transaction Julian Vance ever made."

Mia stepped toward the pedestal. At its center sat an intricate glass-and-steel scanner glowing with an eerie blue light.

"How does it work?" she asked, her heart hammering against her ribs.

"Julian built this vault using Arthur’s engineering team," Victor explained. "He thought he could trick Arthur into sealing his fortune here. But Arthur was smarter. He programmed the vault’s DNA lock to accept only a direct male heir of the third generation—someone carrying both the unmutated Sterling marker and the Vance maternal lineage. That means Tommy."

Mia looked down at her sleeping son. "He’s just a baby, Victor. Is this safe?"

"It’s just a gentle swab or a prick of his finger for a microscopic sample," Victor assured her gently. "The vault reads the genetic sequence instantly."

Mia took a deep breath. She gently lifted Tommy’s little hand, guiding his palm toward the glass plate. A soft beam of golden light swept over Tommy’s hand.

For five agonizing seconds, the underground rotunda remained completely silent.

Then, a mechanical chime echoed off the stone walls. The heavy titanium locks began to turn with thunderous metallic thuds. Heavy pneumatic pressure released in a cloud of white vapor, and the six-ton vault door slowly creaked open.

Inside, bathed in soft white LED light, lay shelves filled with gold bullion, black hard drives, and at the center on a velvet pedestal—a thick, leather-bound book sealed with a silver crest.

Mia stepped inside, her eyes filling with tears as she recognized her father’s elegant handwriting on the cover of the book: For My Daughter, Mia. Reclaim What Is Ours.

Before she could reach out to touch it, a sharp, metallic sound rang out from behind them.

CLACK.

"Don't touch a single page, my dear," a smooth, sinister voice echoed through the open vault door.

Mia turned around in horror. Standing at the entrance of the subterranean rotunda was Chief Deputy Harrison of the State Police, surrounded by eight heavily armed tactical officers. And walking right beside him, leaning on a fresh silver cane, was Julian Vance.
