Chapter 12 - THE MAN WHO BLAMED EVERYONEBrandon posted bond.

His first demand was to see Skylar.

His second was for Charlotte to "drop everything."

She refused.

In family court, Brandon's attorney tried to frame the situation as a marital misunderstanding.

The judge wasn't convinced.

Skylar's evaluator documented something important.

She loved her father.

But she was afraid he cared more about keeping Gertrude happy than protecting her.

Brandon heard it.

His face collapsed.

For the first time, Charlotte saw genuine shame.

But shame wasn't the same as accountability.

He still wanted Charlotte to help him.

He still wanted forgiveness.

He still wanted the consequences to become smaller.

Charlotte had learned the difference between remorse and regret.

Remorse asks:

What did I do to you?

Regret asks:

May you like

Why am I suffering now?

Brandon was still asking the second question.
