Chapter 13 - KELSEYDuring mediation, Brandon finally admitted the affair.

Eight months.
Kelsey knew he was married.
She knew about the house.
She knew about the money he expected to receive.
Charlotte asked one question.
"Did you love her?"
Brandon looked away.
"I thought I did."
Charlotte nodded.
That answer was almost comforting.
Because it meant she no longer needed to wonder whether she had failed as a wife.
He had already built another life in his head.
A life funded by her house.
Her labor.
Her daughter's future.
The marriage had ended long before the divorce papers.
Charlotte simply hadn't been informed.
Then Hailey revealed one final message.
Brandon had written:
Mom thinks she's getting a condo, but I'm not throwing $200K away on her.
Even Gertrude had been part of his escape plan.
He intended to steal from his mother too.
Charlotte finally understood.
This family hadn't been united against her.
