Chapter 11 - Under the RadarThe clock on my dashboard read 11:45 PM as my Ford F-150 coasted silently along the perimeter of the Scottsdale Waterfront construction site. The giant steel crane towered into the midnight sky like a skeletal monster.

In the passenger seat, Marcus held a ruggedized tablet connected via fiber-optic line to the hidden antenna array in my truck's roof.

"Hold speed at fifteen miles per hour," Marcus whispered, his eyes glued to the signal strength meter. "We’re picking up the sub-surface frequencies... 433 Megahertz... coming through!"

Line after line of green raw telemetry data began pouring across the screen.

"Got it!" Marcus gasped, his fingers flying across the keys. "Oh, sweet Jesus... look at these stress readings. Pillar 4B is already showing micro-fractures under its own weight, and the building is only twelve stories high!"

"Is it enough for a federal injunction?" I asked, keeping my eyes on the rearview mirror.

"It’s enough to shut down every Harrington construction site in the state of Arizona," Marcus said, his voice trembling with excitement.

Suddenly, bright halogen floodlights burst to life from the construction gate ahead. A heavy black Ford Raptor lunged out of the complex, turning sharply onto the road, its high beams blinding my mirrors.

"We’ve been spotted!" Marcus yelled.

The Raptor surged forward, slamming violently into my rear bumper. The impact sent a violent jolt through my spine, the truck skidding sideways across the slick asphalt.

"Hang on!" I roared, gripping the steering wheel with white knuckles, flooring the accelerator as the supercharged engine roared to life.
