Chapter 10 - Behind Enemy LinesJulian didn't waste a second asking questions. He pulled his sidearm, shot Alexander in both kneecaps to ensure he couldn't follow, and grabbed Maria by the arm.

"We're leaving!" Julian roared.
They burst onto the Casino balcony, scaling down the decorative iron latticework as alarm bells shrieked throughout Monte Carlo. Below, a black speedboat operated by Julian’s loyal reserve team was idling in the marina waters.
They leaped off the pier into the boat just as mercenary gunfire tore up the wooden docks behind them.
Julian pulled out his satellite communicator, his heart pounding in his chest. "Dr. Chen! Report! Is the safehouse compromised?!"
Static filled the line, followed by the sound of heavy gunfire over the comms.
"Julian!" Dr. Chen’s frantic voice pierced the noise. "They breached the upper level! Guard turrets are down! Commander Cole’s tactical team is holding the nursery line, but they have heavy explosives!"
"Administer the antidote virtually!" Julian ordered, opening his laptop on the bouncing boat console. "Maria, sync the local bio-injector in the nursery!"
Maria connected her encrypted tablet to the vial. "Transmitting molecular data sequence to the automated medical cradle in the safehouse now! Injecting in three... two... one... Done!"
On the screen, baby Leo’s biometrics spiked briefly, then slowly began to stabilize. His heart rate leveled out. The poison was being neutralized.
"He’s stable!" Dr. Chen yelled over the radio. "The antidote worked! But they are breaking down the nursery door!"
Julian looked at Maria, his jaw set like iron. "Trigger Protocol Zero."
Maria gasped. "Protocol Zero? Julian, that flushes the entire safehouse with non-lethal neuro-gas and seals the titanium blast doors permanently from the inside! You’ll lock Dr. Chen and Leo inside for forty-eight hours until the air purges!"
"It’s the only way to keep them alive until we get back," Julian said coldly. "Do it."
Maria hit the red command key. Across the Atlantic, massive iron slabs dropped over the safehouse doors, and knock-out gas flooded the corridors, dropping the invading mercenaries instantly while sealing baby Leo inside a bulletproof, airtight vault.

Julian stared into the dark ocean waters as the speedboat raced toward their hidden jet.
"Alexander thought he was pulling the strings," Julian muttered, his eyes filled with dark promise. "Now it's my turn. Faking my death didn't work for him. Let's see how he likes it when I fake mine."
