Chapter 7 - THE MAN WHO SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD Adrian Vale was found two days later.
Dead.
His vehicle had gone over a cliff.
Another accident.
Ellis didn't believe in coincidences anymore.
Neither did I.
The autopsy revealed something strange.
Adrian had been sedated before the crash.
Someone had wanted him silent.
But his office had already been searched.
Someone had taken files.
Not all of them.
One folder remained hidden beneath the floor.
It contained photographs of Serena.
Dozens.
Some showed her in a hospital.
Some showed her walking.
Some showed her holding a baby.
The final photograph was dated only six months earlier.
Serena was alive.
And she was smiling.
On the back:
She remembers everything.
I couldn't sleep that night.
Because if Serena remembered everything, then why hadn't she come home?
The answer arrived the next morning.
A woman called Ellis.
She wouldn't give her name.
But she said:
May you like
“Serena doesn't know who she can trust.”
Then the line went dead.
