Chapter 8 - SERENA We found her in an abandoned rehabilitation center.

The building had been closed for years.
But one room had electricity.
One bed.
One chair.
One window.
And Serena.
She was standing with her back toward us.
I couldn't move.
Three years of grief suddenly became three seconds of disbelief.
“Serena?”
She turned.
Our eyes met.
Her face changed.
“Kiernan.”
I crossed the room.
She stepped backward.
Not because she didn't love me.
Because she was afraid.
“I thought you were dead.”
“So did I.”
My knees nearly gave out.
Then she saw Perrin.
Everything inside her broke.
“Where is he?”
“He's safe.”
She covered her mouth.
“My baby.”
I brought Perrin inside.
He stared at her.
Then dropped his stuffed dog.
“Mommy?”
Serena fell to her knees.
Perrin ran into her arms.
For a long moment, no one spoke.
Only a mother and son holding each other after three stolen years.
Then Serena looked at me.
“I didn't abandon you.”
“I know.”
“No.”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“You don't.”
She told us the truth.
The crash had been staged.
She had survived.
But she suffered a traumatic brain injury.
Adrian Vale had treated her secretly.
Rhea had been involved.
The plan was supposed to be temporary.
Until Serena recovered.
But then Serena remembered something.
A financial conspiracy.
Illegal medical experiments.
And evidence involving powerful people.
May you like
She became a threat.
So they erased her.
