Chapter 6 - The Boardroom CoupThe top floor of Sterling Tower was an arena of glass, mahogany, and raw, unchecked corporate power. Twelve senior board members sat around the horseshoe-shaped glass table, whispering nervously as stock tickers flashed red across the wall monitors. Sterling Global's stock had plummeted 18% since news of the manor fire broke at dawn.

At the head of the table sat Carter Vance—thirty-five years old, arrogant, wearing a bespoke double-breasted suit and a smirk that suggested he had already won.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the board," Carter began, tapping his pen against his crystal glass to command attention. "Given the tragic events surrounding Mrs. Eleanor Sterling's disappearance and the tragic destruction of the estate, Sterling Global faces an existential leadership crisis. I propose an immediate vote to appoint me as interim CEO and approve the Apex merger—"
BANG!
The massive double doors to the boardroom flew open.
Ethan Sterling walked in first, flanked by two armed federal marshals. The entire room gasped, several board members pushing back their leather chairs in shock.
"This meeting is out of order, Carter," Ethan announced, his voice ringing across the silent room with absolute authority.
Carter’s smirk faltered for a fraction of a second, replaced by a sneer. "Ethan... you have no legal standing here. Your mother is a fugitive, and you are no longer an officer of this company. Security, escort him out!"
"Security stands down," a cold, smooth voice echoed from the hallway.
Clara stepped through the doorway. She wore a tailored crimson power suit, her hair pulled back into a sharp knot, her stride calm and unwavering. Beside her walked Marcus Vance, carrying a heavy leather briefcase.
"Clara?" Carter stuttered, his face draining of color. "You're... you were supposed to be in ICU—"
"Supposed to be dead, you mean?" Clara said coldly, walking straight up to the head of the table. She slammed a stack of certified legal documents onto the glass desk in front of Carter. "This is the original, verified Vance-Sterling trust agreement, witnessed and stamped by the Supreme Court of New York. As the sole surviving child of Arthur Vance, I hold a 51% voting majority of Sterling Global."
The boardroom burst into chaotic murmurs.
"That's impossible!" Carter yelled, standing up so fast his chair rolled back into the window. "That trust was dissolved twenty years ago!"
"It was forged, Carter," Ethan interjected, plugging the encrypted flash drive into the boardroom display console.
Instantly, the wall monitors replaced the stock tickers with bank records, wire transfers, and high-definition video footage uncovered from the vault—showing Eleanor Sterling signing off on illegal transactions with Apex Financial, and secret audio recordings of Carter arranging kickbacks.
"Carter Vance," Federal Agent Sarah Brooks announced, stepping forward with handcuffs out. "You are under arrest for corporate fraud, money laundering, and treason under the RICO statute."
Carter looked wildly around the room, realizing every single board member was backing away from him in disgust. "This isn't over!" he snarled as the marshals grabbed his arms and dragged him toward the door. "Eleanor will kill you all! She’s already set the final plan in motion!"

Clara sat down smoothly at the head of the mahogany table, looking over the stunned board of directors.
"Now," Clara said, her voice dripping with ice. "Let's discuss the future of Sterling Global."
