The final showdown took place not in a boardroom, but in a federal courtroom. Arthur’s lawyers had successfully escalated the custody hearing to a federal level, tying it to the ongoing SEC investigation into Julian’s finances.
Julian sat at the plaintiff's table, looking supremely confident. He believed his money could buy the judge, just as it had bought the forged documents.
But Arthur had the ultimate trump card.
When it was the defense's turn, Arthur’s lead attorney didn't call a character witness. He called Marcus, the accountant.
Julian’s face went pale.
Under oath, Marcus presented the encrypted emails, the blackmail threats regarding his son, and the exact wire transfers from Julian’s shell companies paying off the corrupt judge who signed the initial custody order.
But the fatal blow came next.
"Your Honor," Arthur’s lawyer said. "We also have a statement from the FBI field office in New York. Twenty minutes ago, Julian Vance’s shell corporation attempted to purchase a vast commercial portfolio in Dubai. A portfolio owned by an undercover federal task force. In doing so, Mr. Vance knowingly transferred three billion dollars through sanctioned, black-listed terrorist financing channels to hide his tracks."
Julian leaped out of his chair. "This is a setup! This is a lie!"
"It’s a checkmate," Arthur said quietly from his seat, his eyes locked on Julian with ice-cold satisfaction.
The courtroom doors opened in the back. Four FBI agents, wearing dark suits and grim expressions, walked down the aisle.
The judge banged his gavel. "Julian Vance, you are in contempt of court, and based on the federal warrants just transmitted to my desk, you are under arrest for international wire fraud, extortion, and forgery."

As the handcuffs clicked around Julian’s wrists, stripping away his dignity, his power, and his freedom in one swift motion, he locked eyes with Arthur. Arthur didn't gloat. He simply turned his back on Julian and wrapped his arms around Maria.
The monster was gone. The shadow was finally lifted.
