The counter-attack required absolute precision. Through Marcus, Arthur began feeding Julian fabricated internal memos. The documents suggested that the Sterling Foundation was on the verge of bankruptcy due to the frozen assets, and that Arthur was desperately trying to quietly liquidate a massive, off-the-books commercial real estate portfolio in Dubai to save face.
Julian, blinded by his arrogance and his hatred for Arthur, took the bait. He wanted to crush Arthur entirely, to buy up the desperate liquidations for pennies on the dollar and humiliate Arthur in the international press.
Julian quietly diverted billions of his own tech-company capital into a shell corporation to purchase the Dubai assets before Arthur could secure them.
What Julian didn't know was that the Dubai portfolio didn't exist. It was an incredibly complex, perfectly legal ghost-asset trap engineered by Arthur and a coalition of international regulators who had been hunting Julian’s illicit financial movements for years.
While Arthur handled the financial trap, Maria took charge of the public narrative. She refused to hide. Instead of issuing sterile PR statements, Maria launched a grassroots campaign. She invited independent, highly respected documentary filmmakers into the Foundation. She allowed them unprecedented, uncensored access to the facilities, the therapists, and the rescued children (with their faces blurred for protection).
"Let them see the truth," Maria told the staff. "No scripts. No staging. We let our work speak for itself."
The pressure was immense. Arthur was working twenty-hour days coordinating with Interpol and the SEC. Maria was managing the media circus while shielding Lily. There were nights they barely saw each other, exhausted and running on fumes.
But one night, as Arthur slumped into bed at 3:00 AM, Maria rolled over and wrapped her arms around him.
