Chapter 20: The Global Summit

The following afternoon, the International Child Welfare Summit opened in the grand hall of the United Nations headquarters in New York. Hundreds of international delegates, journalists, and global leaders filled the auditorium.

Julian Vance sat in the front row, wearing a triumphal smile. He believed the morning board meeting would solidify his takeover of the Sterling Foundation. He was unaware that his break-in team had been arrested and that his internal network had been compromised.

When the floor opened for public presentations, Vance stood up, stepping toward the main podium ahead of schedule.

"Distinguished guests," Vance announced smoothly into the microphone. "It is with a heavy heart that I must report that the Lily Sterling Foundation has failed its mission due to catastrophic internal corruption. I stand ready to step in, assume full administrative oversight, and preserve the sanctuary networks under Vance Capital."

A murmur went through the crowd. Cameras flashed wildly.

Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the back of the hall swung open.

Arthur Sterling walked in, flanked by Federal Prosecutors and Senior Intelligence Officers. Beside him walked Maria, poised and elegant, holding young Leo in her arms. And leading the way, wearing a tailored navy suit and holding a secure digital drive, was fourteen-year-old Lily.

The auditorium erupted into whispers. Journalists scrambled to adjust their lenses.

"Mr. Vance," Arthur’s voice boomed across the hall sound system as he approached the stage. "Your offer of oversight is declined. And your illusion of control is over."

Vance’s face darkened, his composure slipping. "Security! This man is under federal investigation!"

"Not anymore, Mr. Vance," the Lead Federal Prosecutor stepped forward, holding an official court order. "The investigation against the Sterling Foundation has been officially dismissed. However, an arrest warrant has just been issued for you."
