Chapter 4 : The Boardroom Blitz

Chapter 4 : The Boardroom Blitz

The executive boardroom of Sterling Holdings occupied the entire top floor of the Manhattan skyscraper. The air inside was thick with tension as the twelve board members murmured amongst themselves. Elias Vance sat near the head of the table, looking incredibly smug, while Beatrice sat in the gallery section, her chin raised in arrogant defiance.
The heavy mahogany doors swung open. Arthur walked in.
He didn't look like a man on the brink of losing his empire. He was dressed in a sharp, bespoke navy suit, exuding an aura of absolute, terrifying power. He walked to the head of the table, placing a single, black leather folder down on the polished wood.
"Let us skip the pleasantries," Arthur announced, his voice cutting through the room like a serrated blade. "Elias, I understand you have called this emergency session to question my mental fitness and propose my removal as CEO."
Elias stood up, adjusting his tie. "Arthur, it brings me no joy to do this. But your recent erratic behavior—evicting your mother, the scandalous rumors regarding your domestic staff—has created an unstable environment. We have a fiduciary duty to protect the shareholders. We are asking you to step down and surrender temporary guardianship of your daughter to Beatrice."
Arthur didn't yell. He didn't defend his relationship with Maria. He simply smiled—a cold, merciless expression that made Elias instantly falter.
"Fiduciary duty," Arthur repeated softly. He opened the black folder and began sliding thick stacks of paper across the table to the other board members. "Let's discuss fiduciary duty, Elias. What you have in front of you are certified bank records tracing thirty-five million dollars missing from our overseas pension funds."
Elias’s face drained of all color. "This... this is an outrage! These are fabricated!"
"They are verified by federal investigators," Arthur countered seamlessly. "You have been embezzling funds for five years, Elias. And Beatrice, my beloved mother, has been receiving a twenty percent kickback into a shell corporation in the Caymans in exchange for keeping the internal auditors off your back."
Beatrice gasped loudly, standing up from her chair. "That is a lie! You are making this up to ruin me!"
Arthur turned his piercing gaze toward his mother. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, remote control. He pressed a button, and the massive LED screen at the end of the boardroom flickered to life.
"I wasn't going to show this," Arthur said, his voice trembling slightly with suppressed rage. "Because it breaks my heart. But you forced my hand."

The screen displayed high-definition security footage from the hallway outside Lily’s bathroom. The video had no audio, but the visual was entirely damning. The board members watched in horrified silence as Beatrice aggressively cornered the terrified seven-year-old. They watched Maria bravely intervene, pushing Beatrice back. And they watched, with collective gasps of revulsion, as Beatrice raised the red lighter and flicked the flame directly toward the child's face.
"That is the woman you want to give custody of my child to?" Arthur asked, the lethal quiet returning to his voice. "A woman who tortures children and steals from her own company?"
