Chapter 11 - The ConfessionMonths passed.

The Moretti organization fell apart.

The trial began.

But inside our home, something different was happening.

Leo was thriving.

He learned to crawl.

Then walk.

His first steps happened in the living room.

Hannah screamed.

I laughed.

Leo fell into my arms.

I lifted him into the air.

For a few seconds, I forgot everything.

The violence.

The grief.

The blood.

The fear.

That night, Hannah and I sat on the terrace.

The city glittered below.

“Do you ever miss her?” Hannah asked.

“Sophia?”

She nodded.

“Every day.”

“Does loving me make you feel guilty?”

I took her hand.

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because loving you didn't erase her.”

Hannah's eyes filled with tears.

“She gave me a family,” I said.

“And you gave me another chance to have one.”

Hannah leaned against my shoulder.
