Chapter 6 - The Ex-Boyfriend's MistakeThree days later, Marcus Miller called.

The number was blocked.
His voice was unmistakable.
“I've got something that belongs to Hannah.”
I looked across the room.
Hannah was holding Leo.
“What do you want?”
“Five hundred thousand.”
He claimed he had Hannah's mother's wedding ring and personal documents.
Then he threatened to expose her past.
Hannah heard him.
Her face turned white.
“Lorenzo, don't go.”
I walked toward her.
“Marcus has been hurting you for long enough.”
“He's dangerous.”
“So am I.”
She shook her head.
“That's exactly what scares me.”
The words stopped me.
She wasn't afraid of what I could do to Marcus.
She was afraid of losing me.
“Please,” she whispered.
I touched her cheek.
“I'll come home.”
She closed her eyes.
“Promise?”
May you like
“I promise.”
It was the first promise I had made in years that I intended to keep.
