Chapter 13 - The RingThe wedding preparations were chaotic.

Hannah wanted something small.
I wanted something beautiful.
We compromised.
It became both.
A garden.
White flowers.
A quiet ocean breeze.
No politicians.
No syndicate leaders.
No unnecessary extravagance.
Only family and friends.
One evening, I found Hannah standing alone in the nursery.
She was holding her mother's ring.
“Are you nervous?”
“Yes.”
“About marrying me?”
She smiled.
“About believing this is real.”
I stepped closer.
“It is.”
She looked at Leo.
“He has no idea how much he changed everything.”
“He saved me too.”
She looked at me.
“Babies shouldn't have to save their parents.”
“No.”
I kissed her forehead.
“But sometimes they do.”
Then I knelt.
Not because I hadn't already proposed.
Because I wanted to ask again.
“Hannah Hayes, will you spend the rest of your life reminding me that there is more to life than surviving?”
May you like
She laughed through tears.
“Yes.”
