The mansion no longer felt like Lorenzo Rossi's fortress.
It became our home.
Hannah filled the rooms with flowers.
Music.
Books.
Photographs.
Leo's toys appeared everywhere.
Even my office wasn't safe.
One morning, I found a stuffed rabbit sitting on my desk.
Dominic saw it.
He stared.
“You've lost control.”
I looked at the rabbit.
“I have.”
He laughed.
I smiled.
The man who had once terrified entire rooms now spent evenings building wooden toys for his son.
Hannah noticed the transformation.
“You're happier.”
“I am.”
“Do you miss the old you?”
I thought about it.
“No.”
The old Lorenzo had survived.
But he hadn't lived.
I had spent years believing strength meant never needing anyone.
