No children.
The presentation opened.
TRANSACTION OBSTACLES.
Then:
EVERETT BEHAVIORAL PATTERN.
Christmas.
January.
Other arguments.
Some real.
Some selectively edited.
Then:
DOCUMENTATION OBJECTIVE.
Create a neutral record of Everett escalating before the final transaction vote.
I stopped breathing.
Then the next slide appeared.
ENGAGEMENT CHANNEL: DELPHINE.
The reason?
“Everett reacts predictably to criticism involving Willa and Lila.”
My hands went cold.
Then came the phrase:
WILLA — LEVERAGE POINT.
No one moved.
Mother stared straight ahead.
The slide continued:
Goal: Everett reaction, not child harm.
Then:
Keep interventions noninjurious.
But another line followed:
Physical correction only if ordinary/defensible.
That was enough.
They had not planned the exact slap.
But they had created a strategy where a child could be mistreated in order to trigger her father.
Then came the payments.
The bonus structure.
The clean vote.
The removal of me.
The preservation of Mother's side arrangements.
An independent director finally asked:
“Why not use existing incidents?”
Mother answered:
“Because they weren't enough.”
“Why involve Willa?”
Silence.
Mother finally said:
“Because Everett loses objectivity where his daughter is concerned.”
Delphine looked at the floor.
Then she admitted:
“I wanted the sale.”
“And the $1.15 million?”
“Yes.”
No dramatic confession.
No villain speech.
Just the truth.
Mother had wanted speed.
Delphine had wanted money and approval.
