Chapter 14 - The RecordingThe memory card contained one video.
Sofia played it.
Her father appeared on screen.
Older.
Exhausted.
Terrified.
“My daughter,” he said.
“If you're watching this, I failed to protect you.”
Sofia began crying.
“I need you to know one thing.”
He looked directly into the camera.
“I never stole the money.”
He explained everything.
Helena had forced him to transfer funds into offshore accounts.
When he threatened to expose her, she arranged his disappearance.
But he survived.
He went into hiding.
Then he was found.
The video ended with a final sentence.
“The person who ordered my death is not Helena.”
Sofia stopped the recording.
Leonardo stared.
“Who?”
She restarted it.
Her father's final words echoed:
“It's someone you call family.”
The screen went black.
Gabriel stepped backward.
“I don't know what that means.”
Leonardo looked at him.
Then at Sofia.
Someone had betrayed them again.
