Chapter 8 - The MemoryLeonardo spent the night in a hospital undergoing neurological evaluation.

Sofia sat outside.

At 6:42 a.m., he woke.

He asked for her.

When she entered, he was crying.

“I remember the door.”

Sofia sat beside him.

“What happened?”

“I heard my father screaming.”

Leonardo closed his eyes.

“My mother told me to run.”

He gripped Sofia's hand.

“But I didn't.”

“What did you do?”

“I opened the door.”

His voice broke.

“I saw my father on the floor.”

Sofia held her breath.

“Was he dead?”

“No.”

“Then what happened?”

“Victor was holding him.”

Leonardo looked at her.

“And my mother had a syringe.”

Sofia's blood turned cold.

“She injected him.”

Leonardo nodded.

“Then she looked at me.”

“What did she say?”

“She said, ‘Now you're the man of this family.’”

Sofia squeezed his hand.

“And then?”

“I ran.”

For the first time, Leonardo understood why he had spent years dreaming about locked doors.

His mother hadn't simply destroyed his family.

She had stolen his memory.

Meanwhile, detectives discovered something unexpected.

Victor Kane had vanished from the country.

But his bank account remained active.

Someone was withdrawing money.

Someone inside the mansion.

Helena.

Sofia confronted her in prison.

“You're finished.”

Helena smiled.

“You still don't understand.”

“What?”

“Victor isn't running.”

Sofia leaned forward.

“Then where is he?”

Helena's smile widened.

“Closer than you think.”

Sofia turned.

Behind the interrogation glass stood Leonardo.

Helena looked directly at him.

“You should ask your husband what happened to his first wife.”

Sofia froze.

Leonardo's first wife?

That was impossible.

May you like

He had never been married.

At least, that was what Sofia believed.
