Chapter 16 - The GunshotLeonardo confessed.

“I heard the shot.”

Sofia stared at him.

“Why didn't you tell me?”

“Because I didn't know what it meant.”

“You knew enough.”

“I was seventeen!”

“You were still protecting them.”

He shook his head.

“I was protecting you.”

Silence.

Sofia's anger weakened.

Leonardo continued.

“My father gave me a gun.”

Sofia froze.

“Why?”

“He told me to protect myself.”

“And did you fire it?”

“No.”

“Are you sure?”

Leonardo closed his eyes.

“I don't know.”

That was the most terrifying answer.

Sofia realized they needed the original crime scene evidence.

They returned to the old library.

The floor had been replaced.

The walls repainted.

But beneath the wood paneling, investigators found a bullet.

Ballistic testing began.

The weapon had been registered to Leonardo's father.

But the bullet had not been fired from it.

Another gun.

Another shooter.

The mystery deepened.

Then Sofia received a call.

Isabella.

“I found something.”

“What?”

“The person who owned the second gun.”

Sofia's blood ran cold.

“Who?”

May you like

Isabella whispered:

“Your father.”
