Chapter 20 - Everlasting Light

Two years later.

The sun was shining brightly over the rolling hills of the Sterling-Vance private coastal estate in California. The air was fresh with the scent of salty sea ocean breeze and blooming lavender.

On the sweeping green lawn overlooking the Pacific Ocean, a massive wooden playground had been constructed. Chloe, now eight years old and thriving as a top student at her school, was swinging high into the air, her laughter echoing merrily across the estate.

Sitting on a soft woolen blanket on the grass, Clara watched her daughter with a peaceful, serene smile. In her arms, wrapped in a powder-blue blanket, lay a three-month-old baby boy with dark tufts of hair and brilliant green eyes—Ethan Arthur Vance.

Ethan walked across the lawn from the main house, carrying a tray with fresh iced tea and fruit. He set the tray down on the wooden bench nearby and sat down on the blanket next to Clara.

He leaned down, gently kissing his sleeping son’s soft forehead, before placing his arm around Clara’s waist and pulling her close against his side.

"How is the young prince doing?" Ethan asked softly, his eyes brimming with deep, contented affection.

"He just fell asleep after fighting it for an hour," Clara chuckled quietly, resting her head against Ethan’s shoulder. "He has his father’s stubbornness."

"And his mother’s beautiful eyes," Ethan countered with a tender smile, kissing her temple.

They sat in comfortable, loving silence for a long moment, watching Chloe jump off the swing and run toward the garden to play with the family dog. The dark days of Victoria’s malice, Vance’s corporate terror, and the generational blood feuds felt like a distant, faded nightmare—a storm that had passed, leaving behind a clear, endless blue sky.

Ethan reached out, his hand finding Clara’s. His thumb gently traced the pearl-accented diamond ring sparkling on her finger in the California sun.

"Do you remember the night the pearls shattered?" Ethan asked quietly, looking out over the endless ocean horizon.

Clara turned her head to look at him, her eyes filled with boundless warmth, love, and absolute peace.

"I remember," Clara whispered, leaning up to press a soft, sweet kiss onto his lips. "The pearls had to shatter, Ethan... so that we could build something that could never be broken."

Ethan smiled, pulling his wife and son close against his heart as the golden light of the setting sun bathed their family in everlasting warmth.
