Chapter 6 - The Unraveling

The secret safehouse located deep within an underground bunker in industrial Seattle was cold and sterile. Fluorescent lights flickered overhead as Ethan, Clara, and Marcus analyzed the stream of digital data pouring in across three monitors. Chloe was sleeping in an adjoined room, guarded by two loyal former mercenaries Marcus had summoned.
Clara stared at the screen in disbelief, her mind spinning as Ethan brought up the old property registries and family lineage charts he had unlocked using her notebook's raw codes.
"Clara Sterling..." Ethan whispered, looking at her as if seeing a ghost. "Your father wasn't a blue-collar mechanic who died in a factory explosion. He was Arthur Sterling—the rightful founder of the Sterling Conglomerate."
Clara shook her head, tears welling in her eyes as memories swept over her like a tidal wave. She remembered a quiet man who smelled of engine oil and peppermint, a man who had told her bedtime stories about a giant castle made of glass that he had once built. "My mother... she always told me to hide my middle name. She said if anyone ever found out who my father was, bad men would come for us. We lived in poverty... changing our names every two years..."
"Because Nolan Sterling was hunting you," Marcus said, stepping up to the console. "When Arthur Sterling died in that suspicious factory fire, his shares didn't disappear. They were placed in a blind trust awaiting his legal heir's twenty-fifth birthday."
Ethan turned to Clara, his hands taking hers gently. "Clara, you turned twenty-five three weeks ago."
The realization hit like a lightning bolt. Victoria hadn't just hired Clara by chance; she had hired her to keep her under surveillance, treating her like dirt to break her spirit so she would never question her origins or lay claim to her true heritage. Victoria and Julian had been keeping their greatest threat in plain sight, hidden as a maid in their own house.
"They used me," Clara whispered, her soft voice turning into something cold, hard, and unforgiving. "They made me scrub their floors while they lived off my father's legacy."
"They stole your life, Clara," Ethan said, his eyes burning with intense conviction. "And tomorrow morning at nine o'clock, when Vance attempts to sign the receivership papers at the global banking summit, we aren't just going to defend my company. We are going to claim yours."

Suddenly, the red alarm lights in the bunker began to flash silently. The main monitor split into four security camera feeds showing armored tactical vehicles pulling up outside the industrial warehouse. Dozens of heavily armed men in unmarked tactical gear were pouring out, breaching the perimeter doors with explosives.
Marcus cursed, pulling his assault rifle from the rack. "Thermite charges on the upper security doors! They tracked our signal! We have less than two minutes before they breach!"
