Chapter 11 : The Reckoning

Chapter 11 : The Reckoning

Three days later, the high-rise office of Isabella Rossi was surrounded by federal law enforcement vehicles.
Isabella sat behind her desk, furiously trying to execute emergency offshore fund transfers, but every account she touched was frozen. The news channel playing on the wall monitor showed breaking headlines:
THORNE INDUSTRIES SCANDAL: BILLIONAIRE MARCUS THORNE SURRENDERS ENTIRE FORTUNE TO FEDERAL AUTHORITIES, EXPOSES ROSSI CRIME NETWORK.
Isabella slammed her fist onto the desk in rage. Marcus hadn't fought back to save his empire—he had intentionally burned it to the ground to destroy her. By surrendering his own shares and cooperating fully with the Department of Justice, Marcus had immunity from prosecution while handing the authorities an airtight case against Isabella and her associates.
The heavy wooden doors of her office burst open. Federal agents walked in, led by FBI Senior Agent Vance, accompanied by two armed officers.
"Isabella Rossi," Agent Vance declared, pulling out a warrant. "You are under arrest for corporate fraud, money laundering, grand conspiracy, and attempted murder."
Isabella stood up, her face twisting in denial and fury. "Do you know who I am? My family owns half this city! You can't touch me! Where is Marcus? Where is he?!"
"Mr. Thorne is currently at the hospital with his family," Agent Vance replied coldly, signaling the officers forward. "And as for your family’s influence... your father was taken into custody two hours ago at JFK airport."
As the metal handcuffs clicked around Isabella’s wrists, she screamed in rage, dragging her feet as agents escorted her past flashing news cameras through the lobby where she had once reigned supreme. The high society that had worshipped her turned its back in an instant.
Meanwhile, in the quiet sanctuary of the hospital’s NICU, the room was soft with the rhythmic hum of medical monitors.
Marcus sat next to an incubator, holding Khloe's hand. Khloe was in a wheelchair, her body still weak from surgery, but her gaze was fixed intently on the tiny baby sleeping peacefully inside the glass case, fitted with small breathing tubes.
"Look at her," Khloe whispered softly, tears of joy sparkling in her eyes. "She’s so tiny... but so strong."
Marcus leaned down, resting his forehead gently against Khloe’s hair. "Just like her mother."
A senior federal prosecutor walked quietly into the room, holding a brief stack of legal documents. He spoke in a low voice out of respect for the quiet nursery.
"Mr. Thorne, the federal judge has accepted your plea cooperation," the prosecutor said gently. "Because you exposed the entire illegal network and surrendered all profits derived from Thorne Industries, you will face no criminal charges. However, Thorne Industries will be liquidated, and the majority of your corporate assets will be forfeited to pay restitution to the victims."
Marcus looked up at the prosecutor, then back at Khloe and their tiny daughter inside the incubator. A peaceful, clear smile spread across his face—a smile devoid of the arrogance and cold burden he had carried for over a decade.
"Take it all," Marcus said softly, without a single shred of regret. "Keep what's needed for restitution, and transfer the remaining personal savings into a trust for medical research. I don't want a single dollar built on that life."
The prosecutor nodded with deep respect, signed the final paperwork, and quietly left the room.

Khloe reached up, placing her hand gently against Marcus’s cheek. "You gave up everything you built, Marcus."
"No, Khloe," Marcus said, kissing her palm with profound tenderness. "I gave up a prison. Everything I ever truly wanted is right here in this room."
