Chapter 15: The Falling Dominoes

Chapter 15: The Falling Dominoes

The morning Sun broke through the storm clouds, painting the sky in brilliant hues of gold and amber over the federal courthouse downtown.
A massive sea of reporters gathered behind police barricades as federal vans arrived. Cameras flashed rapidly as Adrian Cole and Vanessa Vance were led up the stone steps in orange jumpsuits and heavy wrist restraints.
Inside the courthouse press room, Agent Ruiz stood at a podium covered in microphones, flanked by senior officials from the Department of Defense and the Department of Justice.
"This morning," Ruiz announced into the microphones, "the Federal Bureau of Investigation successfully dismantled an international corporate espionage syndicate. Complete evidence recovered from the primary suspect proves that Mr. Nathan Hale and Hale Aerospace were the targets of a sophisticated framing operation designed to compromise national security technology."
Ruiz paused, looking directly into the primary news camera. "The Department of Defense has fully reinstated Hale Aerospace’s primary defense contract, with total exoneration of Mr. Nathan Hale. Furthermore, the federal government commends Mr. Hale and his family for their extraordinary assistance in bringing these perpetrators to justice."
At the back of the press room, Nathan sat beside Claire. Her hand was firmly tucked in his, her head resting gently against his shoulder as the announcement played live across national news networks.
"It's over," Claire whispered softly.
"It really is," Nathan replied, kissing the top of her head.
That afternoon, Nathan returned to Hale Aerospace headquarters. As he walked through the glass lobby, every employee—from the front desk receptionists to the senior engineering staff—stood up and began clapping. The applause swelled into a thunderous ovation that echoed throughout the multi-story atrium.
Richard Vance stepped forward from the crowd, holding out his hand. "Nathan. The board met an hour ago. The motion to replace you was unanimously dismissed. We owe you a profound apology."
Nathan shook Richard’s hand firmly. "Apology accepted, Richard. But things are going to change around here."
"Name your terms," Richard said.
May you like
"First," Nathan stated, looking around at his team, "we are creating an internal ethics oversight committee headed by independent investigators. Second, I am restructuring my executive hours. I will no longer sacrifice my family for this company."
Richard smiled warmly. "I think the board will find those terms more than acceptable."
