Chapter 15 - Learning to Be a FamilyOlivia and Ethan did not remarry.

Not yet.

They learned to co-parent.

They learned to argue without destroying each other.

They learned that love could be rebuilt slowly.

Sophie became the center of their new routine.

Breakfast together.

School together.

Therapy together.

Bike rides.

Beach walks.

Movie nights.

The Malibu house changed.

The marble kitchen was replaced with warm wood.

The locked pantry was removed.

The security cameras remained—but now Sophie understood why.

Doors were left open.

Lights stayed on at night.

No one demanded silence.

One evening, Sophie asked:

“Are we a family again?”

Olivia looked at Ethan.

He answered carefully.

“We never stopped being one.”

Olivia smiled.

“We're learning how to be a better one.”

Sophie seemed satisfied.

Then she asked the question neither adult expected.

“Will you get married again?”

Ethan nearly choked on his coffee.

Olivia laughed.

“That's a conversation for grown-ups.”

Sophie nodded.

“Okay.”

Then she added:

“But you should.”

Olivia laughed harder.

Ethan looked at his daughter.

“Whose side are you on?”

“Mommy's.”

“Traitor.”

Sophie grinned.

For the first time in years, the house filled with laughter.

Real laughter.

Not performance.

Not manipulation.

May you like

Not fear.

Just life.
