It was from the foster family caring for Julian.
They wanted to know whether he should have contact with his biological relatives.
Ethan hesitated.
Olivia read the letter.
“What do you think?”
“I don't know.”
“Neither do I.”
They visited a child psychologist.
The answer was simple.
Julian was innocent.
He deserved stability.
He deserved to know the truth when he was old enough.
But he did not deserve to inherit the hatred of his parents.
So Ethan and Olivia created a protected trust for him.
Not as a reward.
As a shield.
They agreed to visit only under professional supervision.
The first time Sophie met him, she looked at the baby for a long time.
“That's Adrian's son?”
“Yes.”
She touched his tiny hand.
“He didn't do anything.”
“No.”
“Then he can have some of my toys.”
Olivia smiled.
“You're sure?”
Sophie nodded.
“Babies need toys.”
Ethan looked away for a moment.
His daughter had survived adults who believed children were property.
