Chapter 15 - THE BOARDROOMThe Mercer board meeting began at nine.

Every major financial network covered it.
Julian walked into the room alone.
Executives stared.
Richard Vale sat at the far end.
Smiling.
“You came.”
Julian took his seat.
“You wanted me.”
“Yes.”
Vale announced that Julian had demonstrated emotional instability.
He cited the balcony incident.
The fire.
The kidnapping.
He argued Julian was unfit to lead.
One by one, board members turned against him.
Then Julian stood.
“You're right.”
The room went silent.
Vale frowned.
Julian continued.
“I am not fit to lead this company.”
Vale smiled.
“Excellent.”
Julian looked at the cameras.
“Because this company should never have existed in its current form.”
The room erupted.
Screens behind him activated.
Bank transfers appeared.
Names.
Dates.
Recordings.
Vale's face changed.
“You can't.”
Julian looked directly at him.
“Richard Vale, you are under investigation for murder, fraud, conspiracy, and attempted kidnapping.”
Police entered.
Vale stood.
“This is fabricated.”
Vivienne walked into the room.
“No.”
She looked at the cameras.
“I recorded it.”
Vale stared at her.
“You stupid—”
He stopped.
The entire country was watching.
Julian turned toward him.
“My father built a system designed to survive him.”
He looked around the boardroom.
“Today, it ends.”
Vale lunged.
Police restrained him.
But before they could take him away, Vale laughed.
“You think you've won?”
Julian looked at him.
Vale whispered:
“You haven't seen the last file.”
Julian froze.
“What file?”
Vale smiled.
“The one about Evie's birth.”
Then he was dragged away.
Julian immediately turned to Elena.
She had gone pale.
“What is he talking about?”
Elena didn't answer.
Julian stepped closer.
“Elena.”
May you like
She finally whispered:
“Evie wasn't supposed to be born.”
