Chapter 19 - THE LETTERA year after the fire, Julian received a letter.

No return address.

Inside was a photograph.

It showed Elliot Mercer standing beside a woman.

Elena.

But this photograph was different.

There was a child in Elena's arms.

A baby.

Evie.

Julian's heart stopped.

The date on the photograph was six months before Evie's birth.

Impossible.

He turned it over.

Three words.

SHE HAS A BROTHER.

Julian immediately called Elena.

She saw the photograph.

Her face went white.

“No.”

“Who is the baby?”

“I don't know.”

“You were pregnant.”

“Yes.”

“With twins?”

Elena began shaking.

“I was told Evie was the only baby.”

Julian looked at the photograph again.

The second child had dark hair.

Gray eyes.

And the same birthmark.

Marcus began searching records.

Nothing.

No second birth certificate.

No adoption record.

No death certificate.

Then Adrian found a sealed medical file.

Two babies had been delivered.

One girl.

One boy.

The boy had been transferred to a private facility.

Name:

BABY M.

Julian felt cold.

“Where is he?”

The facility no longer existed.

But the records contained one final address.

A private boarding school in Switzerland.

Julian looked at Elena.

“We're going.”

She shook her head.

“Julian, if someone hid our son for three years, they did it for a reason.”

“I know.”

“Then what if finding him puts Evie in danger again?”

Julian looked at the photograph.

His voice was quiet.

“Then I protect both of them.”

He packed that night.

But before leaving, he checked on Evie.

She was asleep.

He kissed her forehead.

Then he whispered:

“I almost lost you once.”

He looked toward the window.

“I won't lose you again.”

Across the street, a dark vehicle waited.

Inside, a man watched the house.

He held a photograph of Evie.

Beside it was another photograph.

A little boy.

May you like

And the man whispered:

“Finally.”
