“Good.”
Hart shook his head.
“You still don't understand.”
“What?”

Julian frowned.
“It was about Project Mercury.”
Hart explained.
Mercer Global had accumulated decades of intelligence on powerful people.
Elliot intended to expose corruption.
Vale intended to monetize it.
Hart intended to control it.
Evie was the legal key.
If the trust opened, the evidence became public.
Hart wanted the evidence destroyed.
Julian looked at him.
“Why not kill me?”
“Because you're useful.”
Hart revealed a final plan.
Julian would be framed as mentally unstable.
Evie would be removed.
Elena would disappear.
And the trust would be transferred.
Julian smiled.
“You made one mistake.”
“What?”
“You told me your plan.”
Marcus entered.
Police followed.
Hart's smile vanished.
But he reached inside his coat.
Julian moved.
A shot rang out.
Hart fell.
Not dead.
Wounded.
As police arrested him, Julian looked toward the horizon.
The war was ending.
But he knew something else.

The scars remained.
Especially on Evie.
That night, Julian sat beside her bed.
She woke.
“Daddy?”
“Yes?”
“Will you leave?”
Julian's heart broke.
“No.”
“Promise?”
“I promise.”
She smiled.
Then she asked:
“Will Mommy stay too?”
Julian looked toward Elena.
