David stared at him.
“You knew where she was.”
“I had to keep her hidden.”
“You used my daughter as bait.”
“No.”
Jonathan looked devastated.
“I protected her.”
“From whom?”
Jonathan hesitated.
Then:
“From Eleanor.”
David's expression hardened.
“Eleanor is in jail.”
Jonathan shook his head.
“She escaped.”
David's phone rang.
Detective Alvarez answered.
His face changed.
“What?”
He looked at David.
“Eleanor is gone.”
David felt the room become colder.
Emma clung to his hand.
Jonathan whispered:
“She'll come for the children.”
A car exploded outside.
Windows shattered.
Everyone dropped.
Gunfire erupted.
Jonathan pushed Emma behind a wall.
David grabbed Leo and Lily.
“Stay down!”
Alvarez returned fire.
Then a figure appeared outside.
Eleanor.
She stood in the rain.
Smiling.
“David!”
Her voice echoed through the darkness.
“You thought a wall could stop me?”
She raised a gun.
“You're going to give me everything.”
David stared at her through the broken window.
“No.”
