Chapter 13 - The Last FileAt dawn, David returned to the hospital.

Sarah was gone.
Her bed was empty.
The machines had been disconnected.
A nurse screamed when she saw the room.
David felt his knees weaken.
Then he noticed something on the pillow.
A note.
COME ALONE.
Below it was an address.
David knew immediately.
His father's old construction site.
The unfinished Mercer Tower.
He went alone.
At the top floor, Sarah was waiting.
Bound to a chair.
Eleanor stood behind her.
“You came.”
David stared.
“Let her go.”
Eleanor smiled.
“You always were predictable.”
“You're finished.”
“No.”
She leaned closer.
“I own the company.”
“You forged everything.”
“Not everything.”
She held up a folder.
“Your father's original contracts.”
David's face hardened.
“Why?”
“Because your family destroyed mine.”
Eleanor's voice cracked.
“Your father stole everything from us.”
Sarah shouted:
“That's not true!”
Eleanor struck her.
David lunged forward.
“Touch her again and I swear—”
Eleanor raised the gun.
Then footsteps echoed below.
Police.
Eleanor's smile vanished.
“You brought them.”
“No.”
David looked confused.
Then a voice came through the stairwell.
Martin Voss.
“I did.”
May you like
He stepped into the room.
And he wasn't alone.
