Chapter 12: The Iron Works
The pursuit of Thomas Carter’s legacy led us t

o an abandoned iron foundry on the cold outskirts of Brooklyn. The rusted steel beams stood like giant skeletons against the gray evening sky.
I set up a tactical perimeter with our private security team, while Dominic insisted on entering the vault room himself, accompanied by me. We knew that Viktor Kroll, a ruthless former lieutenant who had served Dominic’s late father, had also caught wind of the Carter ledger.
Inside the cavernous foundry, the air smelled of wet rust and ancient soot. Guided by the precise coordinates written in Thomas Carter’s journal, we found the heavy steel door of a subterranean vault hidden behind a crumbling concrete wall.
"Dominic Vale," a raspy voice echoed through the vast warehouse.
Out from the shadows walked Viktor Kroll, flanked by four armed mercenaries. Kroll was a relic of the dark past—a man who lived for violence and profit, unable to accept that the old underworld was dead.
"Viktor," Dominic said calmly, standing tall without drawing a weapon. "You're trespassing on private property."
"I came for what’s ours!" Kroll barked, pointing a heavy finger at the vault. "Your father built that empire! You turned soft, Dominic! Walking around like a high-society prince with a housekeeper and her brat! Give me the key code to that vault, or none of you leave this floor alive."
Dominic didn't flinch. He didn't raise his voice. Instead, he stepped forward, radiating an aura of absolute dominance that made Kroll’s mercenaries hesitate.
"I didn't turn soft, Viktor," Dominic said coldly. "I grew up. I learned that true power isn't holding a gun; it's knowing when to bury it. You're standing in a trap."
On cue, heavy floodlights illuminated the entire foundry, blinding Kroll and his men. Sirens blared outside as local and federal law enforcement vehicles sealed off every exit.

"You called the police?!" Kroll yelled in disbelief.
"I gave them the exact location of a wanted fugitive," Dominic replied smoothly. "Drop your weapons, Viktor. The era of monsters is over."
