Chapter 20: The Celebration of Life
The reception was held under a massive transparent pavilion on the grounds of the Shaker Heights estate. Strung lights glinted like stars overhead, and live jazz music filled the cool evening air.
Guests danced, toasted, and celebrated long into the night. Dominic proved to be a gracious host, holding Harper on his shoulders while laughing alongside community leaders.
During a break in the festivities, Mia walked over to where I was standing near the edge of the patio, watching over the crowd.
"Thank you," Mia said, handing me a glass of sparkling cider. "For everything. For keeping Dominic safe when he was alone, and for keeping us safe when we became a family."

"It has been the honor of my life, Mia," I answered sincerely. "Dominic changed because he found someone worth changing for. You saved him."
"We saved each other," Mia replied softly, looking across the lawn where Dominic was carefully helping Harper down from his shoulders so she could join a group of children playing tag.
