Chapter 15: Whispers in the Boardroom

While the personal life of Dominic Vale had reached total harmony, his legitimate business empire, Vale Global Holdings, was preparing for its most critical corporate transition: launching a green infrastructure energy initiative across the Eastern seaboard.

However, moving a multi-billion dollar corporation into public markets attracted new, sophisticated predators.

In a high-rise conference room in downtown Boston, Dominic sat at the head of a long glass table, flanked by his legal team and me. Across from him sat Harrison Sterling, a ruthless hedge fund tycoon known for hostile takeovers and corporate sabotage.

"Let's be realistic, Mr. Vale," Sterling said condescendingly, sliding a thick contract across the table. "You have impressive capital, but your background is... colorful. The board of public utilities will never approve your green energy grid unless you sell fifty-one percent of your voting shares to Sterling Capital."

Dominic didn't even look at the contract. He leaned forward, resting his hands together on the glass surface.

"Mr. Sterling," Dominic said with quiet authority. "You built your fortune by liquidating pensions and destroying small communities. I built my fortune by surviving wars you couldn't even fathom. You think my past is a weakness?"

"I think the SEC would be very interested in reviewing your historical shipping routes," Sterling threatened with a smirk.

I stepped forward, placing a slim tablet in front of Sterling.

"Feel free to share them with the SEC," I said smoothly. "While you're there, you might want to explain why Sterling Capital has been shorting green energy stock using offshore accounts linked to illegal coal lobbies in Europe. Every file is already verified and timestamped."

Sterling’s smirk vanished instantly as he flipped through the digital evidence on the tablet. His legal counsel leaned over, whispering frantically in his ear before shaking his head.

"We play clean now, Sterling," Dominic said, standing up and buttoning his jacket. "If you try to sabotage this initiative, I won't use muscle. I’ll buy your hedge fund and shut it down. Have a pleasant afternoon."
