Chapter 12 - THE SECOND SECRET Just when Mark thought the worst was over, his attorney called.
“There is something else.”
Mark frowned.
“What?”
“The financial records suggest Victoria wasn't acting alone.”
The words froze him.
“Are you sure?”
“We found transfers to another account.”
Mark stared at the documents.
A name appeared repeatedly.
Someone connected to Victoria's private business dealings.
Someone who knew about the debts.
Someone who might have helped hide them.
Mark felt a new wave of fear.
The staircase incident might have been more than a desperate act by a woman drowning in debt.
It might have been part of something larger.
He called the investigator.
“Find out who this person is.”
That night, Mark stood outside Clara's bedroom.
He watched her sleep.
