Chapter 3 - THE ACCUSATION Mark dropped to his knees.

“Give her to me.”

Elena carefully transferred Clara into his arms.

The little girl immediately buried her face against her father's chest.

“Daddy…”

Mark closed his eyes.

That one word nearly broke him.

He kissed Clara's hair.

“I'm here.”

Then he looked at Elena.

Her face was pale.

Her shoulder was shaking.

“What happened?”

Elena swallowed.

“Your wife pushed her.”

Victoria descended the staircase.

“That is a lie!”

Mark slowly turned.

Victoria's eyes were filled with tears.

But Elena had spent two years watching people.

She knew the difference between fear and performance.

“She slipped,” Victoria said. “Elena was supposed to be watching her.”

Elena stared at her.

“I was watching her.”

“You weren't careful enough.”

Mark's jaw tightened.

Victoria stepped closer.

“She nearly killed our daughter through negligence.”

Elena felt the accusation hit harder than the pain in her shoulder.

“I saved her.”

“You caused the accident!”

Mark looked from one woman to the other.

His mind struggled to process what he was hearing.

Then Clara began crying again.

That ended the argument.

Mark immediately called emergency services.

Victoria turned away.

For the first time, her expression changed.

Because she knew something Elena did not.

Mark had installed security cameras.

And one of them faced the staircase.
